Tasting notes
In appearance, it has a ruby red color of varying intensity, turning slightly garnet with aging. It has good aromatic intensity, sometimes with a slightly vinous note. Merlot offers aromas of dark-fleshed fruits such as plums, blackberries, and blueberries, as well as currants and sour cherries. Its taste is characterized by softness and roundness, with tannins that are not particularly aggressive. It is a wine of good smoothness, pure, deep, sweet, and pleasant.
Pairings
Merlot is a highly versatile wine: when young and relatively low in alcohol, it can be enjoyed throughout a meal, paired with first courses (risottos or pasta) with meat ragù; or with both red and white meats (pork, veal, rabbit, and poultry), as well as game dishes, mushrooms (porcini), or medium-aged cheeses.
