Tasting notes
Visually, it has a more or less intense ruby red color, becoming slightly garnet with aging. The aromatic intensity is good, sometimes with a slightly vinous note. Merlot offers aromas of dark-fleshed fruits such as plums, blackberries, blueberries, currants, and sour cherries. Its taste profile is defined by softness and roundness, thanks to tannins that are not particularly aggressive. It is a wine of good smoothness—pure, deep, mellow, and pleasant.
Pairings
Merlot is a wine with great versatility: when young and relatively low in alcohol, it can be enjoyed throughout a meal, pairing well with first courses (risottos or pasta) with meat ragù; as well as with red and white meats (pork, veal, rabbit, and poultry), dishes based on game and mushrooms (such as porcini), or medium-aged cheeses.
