The earliest evidence of the cultivation of Pinot Blanc, which is a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir, dates back to Roman times. In Italy, it has been present since the 19th century. Its name likely derives from “small pine cone,” referring to the small size of the bunch and the tightly packed arrangement of the grapes. It is a grape variety that expresses itself best in cool climates, such as in Alsace or in German-speaking countries where it is known as Weissburgunder. In Italy, the most prestigious areas are Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Herbaceous notes and fruity sensations
Tasting notes
Pinot Blanc has a straw-yellow color with greenish hues. When swirling the glass, we notice its good consistency. It is a complex wine, savory, mineral, elegant, and well-balanced, with great harmony between body and acidity. Bringing the glass to the nose, we are enveloped by herbaceous notes such as marjoram and thyme, fruity sensations like plum, peach, and pineapple, and hints of dried fruit such as hazelnut. Among the floral aromas, we detect cornflower, broom, and acacia. It invites tasting, and we are struck by its good structure and its correspondence with the nose; a buttery, hazelnut note makes it even more intriguing. The finish is persistent, and we continue to enjoy it on the palate.
Pairings
Pinot Blanc, excellent as an aperitif, pairs well with light appetizers, soups, fish-based dishes, and mildly flavored dishes.
